We Don’t Deserve Dogs

After an incredibly productive morning last weekend, which was likely due to the Ritalin I’m on, my mood steadily declined throughout the rest of the day. I didn’t know exactly why, and many times with depression there isn’t a reason. That’s just how it is.

Anyways, as I got ready to go to bed a little early due to my low mood, my 4lb dog that I hardly paid any mind to throughout the day climbed up on my chest and waited for me to pet her as she does every night.

Here is a photo of her so you can see how small she is:

I would typically only pet her for a minute or two and then let her crawl underneath my blanket because she likes the warmth, but this time was different.

This time, with my phone off and my mind clear, I focused entirely on her. I petted her for probably 10 minutes as she dozed off on my chest, and those 10 minutes felt like total bliss.

It really got me thinking about how dogs live entirely in the moment without a single care in the world. They don’t fear for the future or dwell on the past; they live for today. They don’t judge you or abandon you, and they provide unconditional love. We truly don’t deserve them.

I’ve had this image saved for a long time because it’s a good reminder to stay mindful and live in the moment:

With all this being said, if you have any pets, remember to spend some time with them today. The best part of their day is spending time with you, and that’s something they’ll always cherish. Have a great day. 🙏

  1. Thank you for this. I have two Boston Terriers (one might not be..he has a tail and is a big galoot lol) and I find myself not paying as much attention to them. Im being honest. It’s hard to even type this. I just feel so down sometimes. But they are my babies and I have to do better. Thank you again.
