Guardians of the Galaxy is one of my favorite Marvel movies of all time, just after Spider-Man. Naturally, when I heard about the upcoming game, I was excited. After seeing it was being published by Square Enix, the people behind the awful Avengers game, I became skeptical.
Avengers was a total cash grab on the Marvel license and it was a total disaster. It was a mediocre title filled with microtransactions that threw the balance of the game way off. Long story short, I disliked it after completing the main story which was fairly decent.
Guardians of the Galaxy, however, seems to feature what most people love about this group of heros. The humor is a key component I feel and they seem to have nailed that aspect here. The combat looks to be engaging and slightly addicting.
I must say that I’m not a fan of the character designs. Drax looks the worst. I just don’t understand how you can mess up a comic book character that bad when you have the source material right in front of you. I mean, look at this compared to the comics:

Pretty different, right? I just don’t get it. The designs for the other characters aren’t any better either but Drax was the most notable due to how horrendous he looked. Looks aren’t everything, I know. I won’t let this aspect hinder my experience but it was worth noting my distaste for it.
My main concern is whether or not they go all in with microtransactions again. If they do, it will negatively impact the game for me personally. Microtransactions ruined the Avengers. Don’t make the same mistake again.
