The Best Video Games Of The Year 2001

Last time we took a look at the best games of the year 2000. Here are my picks for the best games of the year 2001. I’m only including games I’ve played as it wouldn’t be an authentic list if I included a game simply due to popularity.

Jak And Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

A personal favorite of mine, Jak and Daxter started out as this adorable little platformer with alot of charm. It’s characters were unique and witty, aside from the silent main protagonist who oddly enough had a charm about him as well. It’s a classic.

Grand Theft Auto III

The first Grand Theft Auto game that was fully three dimensional. GTA3 was just the start of the potential that this franchise had. It has since become a household name; everyone knows what Grand Theft Auto is now.

Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex

Speaking of classics, who doesn’t love Crash Bandicoot? Wrath of Cortex was the first of the series to release on the PS2. I have vague memories of all of these games but I remember having a blast with them as a child.

Monsters, Inc.

If I’m being honest, I can’t remember a single thing about this game. I do, however, remember playing this with my cousin quite often and that’s a memory I hold dearly. What a nostalgia trip.

WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It

I actually still play this one regularly. The retro-style soundtrack and gameplay felt reminiscent of something you’d see in an arcade and I always adored that about this game.

Conclusion

These are what I deem the best games of the year 2001. Next time we’ll take a look at the best games of the year 2002. This will continue until we reach the best games of the year 2021. Embrace the nostalgia.
